Emevwo A. Biakolo

ImageEmevwo Anselm Biakolo was born in 1957 in Urhiephron, near Warri, in the Delta State of Nigeria. He attended primary and secondary schools in the area, finishing in 1973 before proceeding to the University of Ibadan in 1974, to study literature, philosophy and classics as a Federal scholar. He also wrote his first collection of poetry at this period. After graduation in 1978 and undergoing compulsory national service, he went back to the Delta State to teach for three years at Government College Ughelli and Unity School Agbarho, at which time he met and married his wife, Margaret, in 1980.

He returned to the University of Ibadan for graduate studies in 1982, focusing his attention on folklore and narrative studies. He completed the M.A. in 1984, graduating at the top of his class. He was immediately appointed lecturer at the Department of English, University of Ibadan.

Michael Okolo

ImageDr Mike Okolo is the Director of Academic Education in the School of Media and Communication (SMC), Pan-African University. He joined Pan-African University in 2004 as the Corporate Affairs Manager of the university. In 2006, he assisted in the establishment of the CMC (now SMC) that has developed into a school of repute, running academic as well as professional education. He is also a senior lecturer at the school in the area of Organizational/Corporate Communication.

In addition to his teaching sessions at the postgraduate level, Dr. Okolo has been involved in many trainings, seminars, workshops and conferences within and outside the country hence his vast knowledge in the field of global contemporary communication. He possesses excellent communication skills and has proven and verifiable competencies in Internal Communication, Issues & Crisis Management and Public Speaking & Presentation Skills.

His areas of research and consultancy are in Strategic Internal Communication and Communication Audit.

Albert Alos

ImageProf. Albert Alos was the pioneer Dean of the Lagos Business School and the first Vice-Chancellor of Pan-African University. He is currently an Emeritus Professor of Pan-African University. He teaches Creativity and Innovation at the School of Media and Communication and at the Lagos Business School. He is an active consultant to industry on strategic management issues and has done extensive research in competitive analysis and strategies for growth. He has written several articles and case studies in these areas.

His book The Pains and Gains of Growth is the result of his research work on the growth of entrepreneurial ventures in the Nigerian environment. His current research interest is the evolution of creative ideas into innovative ventures, with particular relevance to the media industry.

Prof. Alos has received several awards in recognition of his services to Institutions, the Nigerian University system and the Nation.

Eduard F. Schmitter

ImageBorn in Mexico in 1936, Dr. Eduard F Schmitter was granted Nigerian Citizenship in July 2009. He holds an MSc in Astronomy and a PhD in Astrophysics from the University of Wisconsin.

He has been working in Nigeria since 1972, first in the Physics Department of the University of Lagos until 1991 and then in the Pan-African University until 2006 when he retired. However, he continues to render his services to the Pan-African University where he teaches Mathematics in the PhD programme of Lagos Business School and Statistical and Quantitative Research Methods at the School of Media and Communication.

Vincent Ifeanyi Maduka

ImageBorn on 5 October 1935, Engr. Vincent Maduka, NSE., FAEng., OFR, attended King's College, Lagos and graduated B.Sc. (Hons.) in Electrical Engineering at Leeds University in 1959 and M.Eng.Sc. in Applied Acoustics from UCD, Dublin in 1969. He became Chief Engineer, and, in 1973, GM/CEO of WNTV-WNBS Ibadan Nigeria. In 1977, he was appointed the pioneer Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority, (NTA), then briefly Technical Adviser to the Federal Ministry of Communications before returning to NTA. He retired in 1986 into consulting. Maduka has served as President, Nigerian Society of Engineers and also of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering. He was appointed Senior Fellow, School of Media and Communication at the Pan- African University in 2008.

Vincent Maduka has held directorship positions in both the public and private sectors, including at chairmanship level. He holds the Nigerian national honour of the Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR).

Richard Okhumale Ikiebe

 ImageRichard Okhumale Ikiebe, a Senior Fellow with the School and Director of the Centre for Leadership in Journalsm (CLeJ), is an accomplished Media and Management Consultant. He worked as Special Adviser to the Chief of General Staff and as Special Assistant to Minister of Information. He served as World Bank Consultant to the Federal Ministry of Information and the Bureau for Public Enterprises (BPE); as Communication Consultant to Vision 2010; and the AU, among others.

A former editor with the Pan African News Agency, Dakar Senegal, Ikiebe has worked with the Daily Times of Nigeria, Newswatch and hosted acclaimed radio and television programmes for networks in Nigeria. Ikiebe is Vice-Chairman of the Board of Cornerstone Insurance Plc., and he was on the Council of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC). A director and a Fellow of the Institute of National Transformation, (INT), he holds two degrees from the Universities of Ohio and Wisconsin, USA, and a diploma from the Nigeria Institute of Journalism, Lagos.

Martha K. Onyeajuwa

ImageBorn in 1953, Engr. Martha K Onyeajuwa, FNSE, holds a degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from University of Nigeria, Nsukka; MSc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Lagos; Certificate in Teletraffic Engineering from University of Strathclyde, Scotland and an Executive MBA from International Graduate School of Management, University of Navarra, Spain.

Martha has had an extensive career in telecommunication working both as Network Operator and as a Regulator. She was Director of Standards and later Director Traffic and Network Optimization at Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). Prior to that she worked for many years in NITEL where she rose to the post of Deputy General Manager.    

Martha is a member of the Study Group 2 Telecommunication Standardization bureau of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and had served as consultant on various ITU projects in Africa. She is the Vice President of Nigerian National Committee of IEC and a Certified Regulation Specialist by the Water Engineering and Development Centre, Loughborough University and the Institute of Public Private Partnership (IP3) USA.

Martha is a Fellow Nigerian Society of Engineers, Fellow Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria, Fellow Telecommunication Executive Management Institute of Canada and Member Third World Organization of Women in Science.

Martha joined the School of Media and Communications in 2011 and teaches Research Methodology. She also directs the Centre for Marketing and Social Research.

Momoh Emmanuel Isah

ImageMomoh Emmanuel Isah holds a Master’s degree in Mass Communication and a PhD in Business Administration. He started his early career as an editor with the NTA Network News Nigeria and later moved up to become the Chief Operating Officer at Minaj Broadcast International in 1999.

He began his teaching career in 2001, teaching Mass Communication, Business Administration and Marketing at the Enugu state University of Science and Technology. From 2006 to2009, he taught customer service at postgraduate level at Career Forte/Lead City University, Ibadan. He also taught the MBA programme at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho from 2007 to 2008. Currently, his teaching areas include Media Financial Analysis & Management, Business Journalism, and Writing in Corporate Communication.

At present he is studying for another doctorate in Mass Communication and his research area is “Media Pluralism and Journalistic Integrity for optimum media performance in Nigeria”. His publications include, Imperatives for re-inventing Nollywood as a patriotic Nigerian communication medium, Imperatives for Media performance in Nigeria, From Groundnut & Cocoa pyramids to Oil and back: An agenda for Nigeria’s rejuvenation, Repositioning Africa in the new world information order through an E-News agency, Media, Literature & Movies as Siamese triplet Narrative Forms for the Africa of the New Millennium, The Communication superhighway as the path for Africa’s financial recovery and renaissance.

Josef Bel-Molokwu

ImageDr. Josef Bel-Molokwu was born in Benin City on April 6, 1947, of Onitsha parentage. His father was a pioneer educationist, P.N.C.Molokwu, MBE, and his mother Anna E. Molokwu, nee Osandu, a school teacher. After his early education in Government School, Benin City, he went to the District Council School, Ikeja, Lagos, and St. Patrick’s School, Yaba, from where he left in Standard V in 1958 to go into St. Gregory’s College, Lagos, in 1960, finishing top of his class in 1964.

His Higher School Certificate education was at Edo, College, Benin City, in 1965 and 1966, which he finished with distinctions in all his four subjects.His university education was in journalism at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he graduated in 1973 as the best student in his department and the entire Faculty of Arts, winning three academic prizes. In the course of his working career, he embarked on a Ph.D. programme in media management with Somerset University, U.K., and received the doctoral degree in 1987.

James Tar Tsaaior

Image James Tar TSAAIOR is an Associate Professor and the Head, Mass Media and Writing Department, School of Media and Communication, Pan-African University, Lagos, Nigeria, the Director of Academic Planning of the University and a member of Senate. He holds a PhD in English from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

He has taught for over a decade in universities in Ibadan and Lagos. His research interests include African and Afro-Diasporic Literatures, Folklore, Gender and Cultural Studies as well as Literary Theory and Criticism, the New Media and Film Studies. He has published in these areas in reputable local and international journals such as Kunapipi, The Ker Review, Journal of African Literature and Culture, Proverbium, Tydskrif Vir Letterkunde, World Literature and English in Africa, Le Simplegadi, Women’s Studies, Safara, California Linguistics Notes, Dialogue,  Southern African Journal for Folklore Studies and Journal of North African Literature.

His other publications include festschriften in honour of Professors Theo Vincent and Wole Soyinka, many chapters in books, an edited volume, Politics of the Postcolonial Text: Africa and Its Diasporas (Lincom Europa, 2010) and two monographs: Fact of Fiction and Fiction of Fact: The Novel Tradition and Its Character(s) (2005) and History as Character in the Caribbean Literary Tradition (2010).

Dr. Tsaaior is also a published poet with Moments and Monuments (Free Enterprise, Lagos, 2005) and a second volume, “Hearth of the Heart” is due soon. His poetry has been read in The Gambia, South Africa, Italy, Brazil, Spain, United Kingdom and The Netherlands. He is also a media consultant, columnist and has been an editorial board member of some Nigerian national newspapers. He was a visiting research fellow, Centre of African Studies and Wolfson College, University of Cambridge in 2010-2011.

Ikechukwu Obiaya

ImageIkechukwu Obiaya has a background in English having studied it at both the undergraduate and the masters levels. His Ph.D. thesis is a study of the impact of state intervention, through the NFVCB, on the Nigerian film industry.

He has also carried out some studies on the audience of the Nigerian video film as well as on workers in the industry. Obiaya has a varied practical experience of the media having worked at various moments in both a broadcast house and a publishing company.
