Information Minister meets SMC guests at Kolade Dinner

Dr. Christopher Kolade, who has been a senior faculty in the University, was recently appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Pan-African University Governing Council. On Thursday, May 21, 2009 the School of Media and Communication held a dinner in his honour.

The special guest of honour and speaker at the event was the Hon. Minister of Information and Communications, Prof. Dora Akunyili. The Minister spoke on the role of the private sector in re-branding Nigeria.

After the welcome formalities by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Albert Alos, the Dean, Prof Emevwo Biakolo, made a presentation on the present achievements and future vision of the SMC. He spoke of some great new programmes coming soon at the school, in the academic as well as professional education areas. He also revealed plans for undergraduate programmes in 2011.

The top echelon of the media and business communities in Lagos was present at this lively event which took place at the Victoria Island Lagos campus and the nearby Regent’s Restaurant. 

Over one hundred and twenty guests turned out, including former Information Minister, Prince Tony Momoh, Ambassador Segun Olusola, former DG of NTA, Mr Richard Doghudje, former MD of Linta and Chairman of APCON, Insight Communications' Mr. Biodun Shobanjo, the Chairman of Cornerstone Insurance, Adedotun Suleman, and John Momoh.

The media, the alumni, and current SMC Masters students, were also represented. SMC faculty present include Chief Vincent Maduka, former DG of NTA, Mr. Richard Ikiebe, and Dr. James Tsaaior.
