Centre for Leadership in Journalism

The Centre for Leadership in Journalism (CleJ) is the product of a collaborative effort between the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) and the School of Media and Communication (SMC). It is devoted to raising the standard of editorial output and building the professional and leadership skills of journalists, particularly of editors.

The Guild and SMC bodies have identified three broad areas which are essential for the  future success of Nigerian Journalism: ICT and new professionalism, core value orientation and the business of media management.

The core objectives of the Centre therefore include the following:

  • To raise the standards of professional competencies and skills that would     drive  the media to new height in the new Internet-driven environment.
  • To arrest the erosion of dominant values such as hard work, honesty, trust,     and integrity,
