Objectives of the workshop
  • Provide participants with sound training in the art and science of planning and writing grant-oriented proposal.
  • Share experiences on the challenges of grant-making and how to have an edge in the competition for the usually limited research funds.
  • Training participants on the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to locate grant providers and to access grants.
  • Network participants with the aim of encouraging among them,inter-and-mult-disicplinary research.

Major Expected outcomes
  • Enhanced information sharing and strategies for making grants among participants.
  • Training of a critical mass of researchers who will in turn train other researchers in their respective home institutions.
  • Development of group and individual concept notes that can later be developed into full grant-winning proposals as a basis of networking among researchers.

Workshop Approach

The workshop will adopt a participatory and interactive approach. A combination of proven teaching strategies shall be adopted, comprising lectures to be delivered by seasoned academics, researchers and representatives of grant providers; case studies and hand-on experiences designed to evaluate participants' mystery of core processses involved in grant proposal development.

  • Planning officers in State and Federal ministries and Parastatals.
  • Researchers and planning officers in non-governmental organizations.
  • Resident Doctors and consultants from teaching hospitals.
