Breakfast Meeting with Human Resources Directors and Managers |
|
Human Resource Managers are looking for ways to find and keep talent in their organizations. High turnover among the employees that the organization would like to retain is an important problem for organizations. Not only does it throw the talent management system (including the succession plan) out of the window, more importantly, turnover among high potentials has negative consequences for organizational performance.
It is also becoming clear that managers leave their bosses and not the organization. Thus retention strategies are shifting towards improving the relationship between subordinates and bosses. In fact, the level of trust between the boss and subordinate is increasingly being recognized as an important factor for increased organizational performance (Gould-Williams, 2003:29). In the session, we will explore the antecedents and outcomes of trust in the boss-subordinate relationship using qualitative and quantitative data obtained from Nigeria and Ivory Coast. We will then attempt to answer the following questions: How do West Africans define trust? What factors influence the development of trust between the boss and the subordinate? What are the outcomes of trust? We will also explore the dynamics of trust in hierarchical relationships. The session closes with a discussion on the implications for Human Resource Managers. The Guest Speaker, Dr. Franca Ovadje, PhD, LBS Faculty, will be making a presentation on: Show me you trust me: Trust in the Boss-Subordinate Relationship.
