Alumni Forum with Ebi Akpeti

Ebi Akpeti, author of the novel The Perfect Church, was the guest at the SMC Alumni forum which held recently at the school.

Image It was an opportunity for Ms. Akpeti, a graduate of the SMC’s Master of Media and Communication programme , to share with the School’s alumni the details of how her novel was adapted into a movie. The movie adaptation was carried out by Wale Adenuga Productions (WAP. Speaking on her inspiration for the story, she said, “It was born out of an occurrence at my local church when a committed member of the choir got pregnant out of wedlock”. That was all she needed to make a novel and in six hours she came up with the first draft of The Perfect Church.

In Ms Akpeti’s words, “SMC marked a turning point in my writing career”. She also considered herself lucky to have met an astute producer, Mr. Wale Adenuga, who invested hugely in her idea by accepting to adapt the book into a movie. She also gave credit to Mr. Joe Dudu, the screenplay writer, for his creativity.

Present at the event were the Dean of the School of Media and Communication, Prof. Emevwo Biakolo, the chief executive officer of WAP, Mr. Wale Adenuga (MFR), Mr. Joe Dudu, members of the alumni association, the press and invited guests.
